Preschool Teacher Training

Training young minds is not an easy task. Involves years of training and understanding child psychology and child behaviour. Moreover, these teachers have to love children, because as cute as they are they can stress you out and leave you highly agitated. Hence love for children and playing with them has to be a self-motivating attitude that pre-school teachers must possess.

Children are like little sun balls, they have a fierce amount of energy stored in them. Channelizing this energy is one of the most important tasks of a teacher. Children vary from 2 years onwards and hence their attention span is very limited. Keeping them occupied with colours, numbers, letters, paint and then taking them to next level of teaching math, science and algebra, can be quite a task.

There are various types of preschool training. The most well-known is the Montessori style of teaching. This has been on the basis of work done by Maria Montessori who developed this method in 1897. It is a model on which a trained environment is created and children are free to choose what they want to do. However as the environment are certain, children automatically act spontaneously for their own development.

The classroom environment is based on the growing child’s needs. As children grow physically, lose their teeth, have longer legs and a torso. Mentally they get into the ‘herd’ philosophy, doing whatever their peers take up. Here is where the child’s personality gets developed. The classroom is filled with small sized chairs and tables with toys and books kept at child’s reach on shelves. Once the teacher explains the activity, the children are then allowed to take up the activity or not to take it up according to their interests.

This style of teaching is divided into 4 planes. These planes are based on understanding the internal growth of a child that takes place physically and mental growth of a child in response to her environment. Basis this, education methods and styles of teaching are undertaken extensively. Not more than 20 children are taken into one class so that attention and ideation can be imparted to each of them.
