Make Your Right Career move in Teaching Profession

A teacher’s responsibility towards a child is probably more than that of the parents. This is primarily because the child just doesn’t receive education from the school where he or she studies, but also learns the value systems from the same people. For taking up teaching as a career, you require a passion for exchanging ideas, whether it is teaching at a school or in a college. While as a school teacher you are to educate delicate minds, in a college environment, the exchanges are at an intellectual level with students who are your friends.
In India, the available opportunities for teachers are in a variety of subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, etc. The demand for good teachers is definitely high considering that today’s children are exposed to the internet and the information overflow. Moreover, virtual classroom teaching has been introduced by some schools, which increases the overall opportunities for teachers.
By pursuing a bachelor’s degree in education after or along with your graduation, you would be able to secure a position as a teacher in a good school. Usually, jobs as teachers in government schools are considered prestigious. However, if you are interested in new methodologies of teaching, you may try for a job in private schools as well.

Teaching Jobs in India

Teachers have always been one of the most prized wealth of any country. They are the foundation builders and keepers of national wealth. While some may disagree to this axiom, most know that without teachers a country will only grow backward.

Teaching in the country was one of the most esteemed jobs one could ever find and is still looked upon with respect and sincerity. Once a teacher, always a teacher. Infact the loyalty for this profession has only grown in leaps and bounds. In the beginning there were only state run schools or English schools run from Catholic charity. Today it is a different ball game altogether.

More than 15000 schools are present in the country right now with 8000 of them being private schools. With this enormous growth of schools the obvious is that teachers are always in demand.

There are different requirements of teachers across different schools and colleges and even more at universities. With pre-primary teaching coming much into being – teachers here are preferred who are young, dynamic and are ready to accept change.

For pre-primary teaching one has to complete 10+2 and do an elementary teacher training course. While some institutes also insist on graduation as the basic requirement for eligibility to elementary training. For basic teaching in schools and colleges a B. Ed. or a D. Ed is necessary beyond a 10+2 or 10+2+3 education. These are full time courses and there are no part-time or distance education. This is because the student is fully immersed in understanding the various teaching methods.

With a PhD in hand many teachers can directly get into teaching as this is one degree that is looked at with great respect in the country.

The following are a few vacancies that schools and teachers mostly have:

  • Computer training teachers
  • English teaching
  • Primary teachers
  • Economics

Payment methods
State run or affiliated schools and colleges have payments made on basis scales. These scales are mostly 6 year, 10 year, 12 year and 20 year based. According to the stipulated details in the scale will your increment happen in that year of a teacher? The beginning teacher salary can be Rs. 8000 to Rs. 15000 and increase according to the scales.

However private schools do not function in this manner. Payment to teachers is basis funds of the institute and the teacher’s competency. One can start at Rs. 25000 and grow enviably in this sector.
