B.Ed Colleges in Delhi

One of the very popular courses among students is a degree in education, popularly known as B.Ed (Bachelors of Education). This course is undertaken by those who intend to pursue a career in teaching in schools and other institutions of the same kind. The duration of the course is two years and to join this course a degree in graduation is a must. A few basic degree are B.com, B.A, B.Sc. The marks should be above 55% and the degree should be done from any recognized university. Any head of an institution like the school is a Bed degree holder. After this degree a person can secure a job in any of the schools. After bachelors in education one can do masters in the same. There are other courses in B.Ed that are more channelized and specialized, they are B.Ed yoga or B.P.Ed (bachelor of physical education).

The capital of the country has no dearth of B.Ed colleges, every
corner of Delhi does have a good college. In the Delhi University there is the Bhai Parmanand Institute of Business, Shakarpur. They have a one year course and they at least require a graduation degree. Another very reputed institute is the Institute Of Advanced Studies In Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, Jamia Nagar, and Delhi. Lady Irwin College, Sikandara Road, Near I.T.O, Delhi . Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Katwaria Sarai 110016. University Of Delhi, Dept. Of Education, 33 Chhatra Marg, Delhi. These colleges hold a very positive reputation in B.ed courses. The duration in all these colleges is one year, however all the courses do have advanced degrees after them. The Delhi university also offers distance learning in the same field.

There is an entrance test to get in any of these colleges. Topics for the exam are general knowledge and current affairs, so whenever you are preparing for an entrance exam do be updated on newspapers and listen to the national news, as a lot is covered in them. There is another paper on English subject, for which one must brush up there basic grammar skills as well as skills in writing and reading. Another paper is on aptitude, which is a test measure to see how well the person can teach.

These questions are basically objective in nature and are in the form of multiple choice questions. If one finds preparation for these exams is difficult then there are coaching’s also available. The coaching for these entrance exams makes the exam very liberal and easy, they are not for a very long duration as well, however these can be done by oneself. There are various help books and reference books available in the market. For the general knowledge paper the year book is also of great help. There are compulsory papers on any two subjects chosen by the candidate in which he or she intends to teach. The fee structure is generally the same in all government institutions. However the private institutions may have a higher fee structure.

B.ed Admission

Teachers play a very important role in a student’s life. It is a teacher who guides a student through his or her career. So it is very significant to be adequately equipped with resources that will create the teacher an ideal role model to the students. To achieve this, D.ED, B.ED or M.ED courses were introduced, which will teach a person about teaching and the different aspects associated with it.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training has been given different types of works covering approximately all aspects of teaching education and quality improvement in teaching education. The National Policy on Education (1986) and its revised version (1992) says that the status of teachers reflects the sociology-cultural philosophy of a society.

Courses and Eligibility:
Pre-primary teachers training: This is an early childhood education programme. It is of one year for those who have completed 10/12th. After completing this one can take up a job in pre-primary section of a school.

D.ED: Two years education program for which 10+2 pass are eligible. After completing this course, one can take a teacher’s job in primary school.

B.ED: One year teacher education programme for which graduates and post graduate are eligible. After completing the course one can take up a teacher's job in secondary schools and Junior colleges in case they have completed their post graduation.

M.ED: This is a one or two year course depending on the respective University for which graduates and post graduates are eligible. After completing this course one can take up a teacher’s job in college.

Teacher Training

"If you educate a boy, you educate one individual,
If you educate a girl, you educate a teacher. If you educate a teacher, you educate a community"

As FRANCIS BACON said," knowledge is power" implies that teaching is an art that can be acquired through a series of well- designed series of activities, it’s imperative, therefore due emphasis should be laid on the education of the teachers.

Teacher education may be defined as "all formal and informal activities and experiences that help to qualify a person to assume the responsibility as a member of the educational profession or to discharge his responsibility most effectively Teacher's training basically refers to the policies and procedures designed to equip prospective teachers with the knowledge, attitude, behavior and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school or a wider community. Although ideally it should be conceived of, and organized as, a seamless continuum; teacher education is often divided into these stages:

• Initial teacher training / education (a pre-service course before entering the classroom as a fully responsible teacher)

• Induction (the process of providing training and support during the first few years of teaching or the first year in a particular school)

• Teacher development or continuing professional development (CPD) (an in-service process for practicing teachers).

There is a longstanding and ongoing debate about the most appropriate term to describe these activities. The term 'teacher training course' (which may give the impression that the activity involves training staff to undertake relatively routine tasks) seems to be losing ground, at least in the US, to 'Teacher Education’ (with its connotation of preparing staff for a professional role as a reflective practitioner).

In the 'consecutive' model, a teacher first obtains a qualification in one or more subjects (often a first university degree), and then studies for a further period to gain an additional qualification in teaching; (in some systems this takes the form of a post-graduate degree, increasingly, this is a Masters).

In the alternative 'concurrent' model, a student simultaneously studies both one or more academic subjects, and the ways of teaching that subject, leading to a qualification as a teacher of that subject.

Other pathways are also available. In some countries, it is possible for a person to receive training as a teacher by working in a school under the responsibility of an accredited experienced practitioner.

In some developed countries, approximately one-third of new teachers come through alternative routes to teacher certification, affiliated with schools of education, where candidates still enroll in university-based coursework. A supplemental component of university-based coursework is community-based teacher education, where teacher candidates immerse themselves in communities that will allow them to apply teaching theory to practice. This also challenges teacher candidates' assumptions about the issues of gender, race, and multicultural diversity.

Teacher training in India, the teachers are fed in from both the government aided schools and from the private ones. Though the path the teacher training should follow is formally spelt out in terms of the syllabi and the courses required the quality of teachers depends on the school, area and the system followed.

In India, teacher salary is not related to the perceived quality of his or her work. Some organizations, however, have the systems to identify the 'best-performing' teachers, and increase their remuneration accordingly. Elsewhere, assessments of teacher performance may be undertaken with a view to identifying teachers' needs for additional training or development, or, in extreme cases, to identify those teachers that should be required to leave the profession. In some countries, teachers are required to re-apply periodically for their license to teach, and in doing so, to prove that they still have the requisite skills.

A sound training and monitoring system would produce a literate and understanding teacher which in turn shapes the lives of the students and the progress of the Nation.
